BOULDER, CO USA Ciclosportivo N.A. announces the company is moving its Gran Fondo and SuperCorsa™ Boulder events to Sunday, October 3, 2010; calendar change forces cancellation of Steamboat events. Gran Fondo and SuperCorsa™ Vail remain as scheduled for June 19-20, 2010.

“First, we wish to extend our deepest apology to all the Gran Fondo Boulder and Steamboat registrants, we are truly sorry for the inconvenience we have caused,” Ciclosportivo N.A. spokeswoman D’Abria Versace states. “While we may share in the disappointment, we take full responsibility for rescheduling Boulder and canceling the Steamboat event.”

Ciclosportivo N.A. will issue full refunds to Gran Fondo Steamboat registrants who are also registered for Gran Fondo Boulder and Vail. For riders registered for Gran Fondo Steamboat only, Ciclosportivo N.A. will issue full refunds if the rider does not want to transfer his or her registration to Gran Fondo Boulder or Vail. Full refunds will also be provided to Gran Fondo Boulder only registrants not wanting to transfer their registration to the rescheduled October 3, 2010 date, or Gran Fondo Vail. Credits will begin processing as early as today.

“The main reason for moving our Boulder events to October comes from the County’s newly-expanded special event approval process,” spokeswoman Versace explains. “While we support the action steps coming from the Boulder County Mountain Canyon Cyclists Motorists Working Group findings, we are not comfortable with the level of uncertainty now raised by requiring local official approval as our Boulder events were only 10-weeks away.”

Convened by the Transportation Department, the Boulder County Mountain Canyon Cyclist-Motorist Working Group brought together County staff, cyclists, motorists and mountain canyon residents to make mountain roads safer for all road users. The Working Group Final Plan was presented on approximately December 11, 2009, and Ciclosportivo N.A. was made aware of the related change in policy during its meeting with the County on Thursday, January 28, 2010. The County’s Special Event Application does not reflect the change in policy; Ciclosportivo N.A. made application with the County for its Boulder events on November 5, 2009.

Ciclosportivo N.A. is canceling its Gran Fondo and SuperCorsa™ Steamboat events due in part to the calendar conflicts created by rescheduling its Boulder events to October 3, 2010. “We wish to extend an apology to the City of Steamboat and her residents, the gracious reception our events received was welcoming,” D’Abria Versace says. “The profile of the Steamboat route is glorious, and we encourage anyone still wanting to ride the course to enter the Kent Erikson Tour de Steamboat on Sunday, July 17, 2010”. More information for Tour de Steamboat is available online at www.rockypeakproductions.com.

While Gran Fondo Boulder registration remains open, Ciclosportivo N.A. recommends that riders wait until the special event permit is issued by the County on approximately April 1, 2010. Registration for Gran Fondo Vail is open and Ciclosportivo N.A. is exploring running a “Mini Classic” in conjunction with its Vail events over the Father’s Day weekend. Drawing inspiration from the Red Zinger Mini Classic (1981-1992), the Mini Classic will serve as an opportunity for young boys and girls to gain exposure to the sport of competitive bicycle racing.
